Section 163 imposed after violent protest in Datia, Narottam Mishra’s statement came

Datia: The protests in the district took a violent turn after the Bharatiya Janata Party made Ashutosh Tiwari its candidate in place of former minister Dr. Narottam Mishra in the assembly by-elections. Seeing the worsening situation, the administration has imposed Section 163 of the Indian Civil Security Code (BNSS) in entire Datia. Under this, any kind of meeting, procession, demonstration, gathering of five or more people without permission and making inflammatory posts on social media has been banned.

Highway jam for 12 hours, 20 kilometer long queue of vehicles

The blockade that started at around 5:30 pm on Friday evening in protest against the ticket change ended at around 5 am on Saturday morning. Due to this demonstration which lasted for about 12 hours, a long queue of vehicles of 15 to 20 kilometers was formed on the Gwalior-Jhansi highway. Considering the situation, the district administration increased its strictness and issued restrictive orders.

Clash between police and protesters, many policemen injured

Tension increased between the protesters and the police around 4:30 am on Saturday. According to the administration, stone pelting took place during this period in which Superintendent of Police (SP) Bhander SDOP and eight policemen were injured. Police fired tear gas shells to disperse the crowd, after which the protesters moved towards the nearby BJP office. The Collector clarified that lathicharge was not done to control the situation.

Narottam Mishra appealed to the workers to maintain peace

After not getting the ticket, Dr. Narottam Mishra on Saturday appealed to the party workers to exercise restraint. He said that the party’s decision should be respected and any kind of violent protest or taking law into one’s hands should be avoided. Appealing to the workers not to take extreme steps like pouring petrol or kerosene, he said that if anyone has any objection then it should be raised on the appropriate platform of the party and not on the road.

Administration alert, ban on any demonstration without permission

According to the order issued by the Collector, till Section 163 remains in force, no kind of public meeting, rally, procession or demonstration can be organized in the district without proper permission. Apart from this, action has also been warned against those who post inflammatory or disturbing atmosphere on social media.
