New Delhi. To get name added in the voter list, Form-6 has to be filled. Now the Election Commission has made changes in Form-6 to be filled for adding names to the voter list. It has been told in the news of Indian Express that a new section has been added in Form-6. Through this section, the Election Commission wants to know whether the name of the parents or grandparents of the person whose name is to be added under the new voter was in the voter list after the previous SIR or not. This section is currently visible for online application. This change is not visible in the downloaded Form-6.

According to the news, while filling Form-6 through Election Commission’s ECINET app, a new declaration has been added between J and K sections. There are three options in this. First- My name is present in the voter list of the previous SIR. Second- The names of my parents, grandparents are present in the voter list of the previous SIR. Third- Neither my name nor my parents’ names were in the voter list of the previous SIR. If the person who wants to become a new voter chooses the first or second option, then the concerned assembly seat, polling station and serial number recorded in the voter list will have to be given. If he does not have this information, he can choose only the third option.

It has been said in the news that this new section is not officially mandatory, but if it is not filled, the online application of Form-6 will not proceed. The new section of Form-6 is visible in the online application for those States and Union Territories where SIR has been completed or is in progress. The new section is not visible in the online application for adding to the voter list in Bihar and Assam. Let us tell you that under SIR, names of about 5.5 crore people have been removed from the voter list so far in 10 states and 3 union territories. In such a situation, due to the addition of the new section, people of the age group of 18 years are likely to face a lot of difficulty in getting their names added to the voter list.
