PoK Protests Death Toll: The ongoing public movement against the Pakistani government and security forces in Pakistan Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (PoJK) has now turned into a bloody conflict. At least 31 civilians are reported to have been killed in the brutal action by Pakistani security forces within the last 48 hours.

After this violence, the total number of people who lost their lives in this movement that started on June 5 has increased to more than 80. Despite heavy repression, the ‘Joint Awami Action Committee’ (JAAC) has made it clear that they will not back down and their Muzaffarabad march will continue.

Muzaffarabad march against oppression

Senior leaders of the Joint Awami Action Committee have accused Pakistani security agencies of using excessive force against unarmed protesters. Committee leader Sardar Omar Nazir Kashmiri said that every possible effort is being made to suppress the movement, but the people are not ready to bow down.

At the same time, another leader Sardar Aman Kashmiri announced that even if only one person survived, the march would be taken out till Muzaffarabad. He stressed that this struggle will continue till independence from Pakistani occupation.

Firing during namaz in Mirpur

According to local media reports, Pakistani security forces opened fire during prayers at Bilal Mosque in Mirpur. In this incident, Imam of Kharian area, Maulana Inayatullah died on the spot after being shot in the head. Although the incident is yet to be officially confirmed, it has created huge outrage among the local people.

Amidst this ongoing chaos in PoK, the Pakistan government is being accused of suppressing independent journalism. Senior journalist of Geo News Shahzad Iqbal has claimed that the media is not being allowed independent reporting in violence affected areas.

He also questioned the government’s claim that the protesters were ‘supported by India’ It is being told. Iqbal asked that if these people were working at the behest of the enemy, then why did the government accept 36 out of 38 of their demands? While giving advice to the government, he said that hiding the head in the sand like an ostrich does not change the reality.

At present the situation in PoJK remains very tense.
