Delhi government will take action against 989 people of NEET movement, know who are these people?

Delhi government has taken a big decision regarding the student agitation against irregularities in NEET-UG examination. The government has announced that no new legal action will be taken against the protesters involved in the movement. However, people who already have a criminal record will not get this relief. Delhi Police claims that 989 such people already have criminal records.

This decision has been taken regarding the cases registered during CJP's Chola Sansad march on July 20. That day there was a clash between the protesters marching from Jantar Mantar towards Parliament and the Delhi Police. After this the police had registered several FIRs. Now the Delhi government has decided to close these cases but people with criminal background have been kept out of this relief.

No further action will be taken in 13 cases

According to the Home Department of the Delhi government, a total of 13 cases related to the NEET movement were registered. The government has made it clear that no new legal action will be taken against the common protesters involved in these cases. Instructions have also been given to release those who were arrested or detained earlier. This decision has also received the approval of the Lieutenant Governor. However, the government has also made it clear that this relief will be available only to those people who do not have any criminal record. This decision has been taken as per the instructions of the Supreme Court.

Why will action continue against 989 protesters?

According to Delhi Police, 2,873 people were identified on the basis of CCTV footage after the violence during the Chalo Sansad march. Of these, 989 people are claimed to have prior criminal records. Police say that these include accused or already registered criminals in serious cases like murder, robbery, robbery, kidnapping, sexual offences, Arms Act and NDPS Act. For this reason, these people will not get the benefit of government relief and legal action will continue against them.

CJP expressed objection to the decision

CJP has expressed strong displeasure over this decision. The party says that while ending the movement, the Central Government had assured to withdraw the cases registered against all the protesters and release the arrested students. Now, keeping some people out of relief on the basis of criminal record is a breach of promise. The party has warned that the agitation will be resumed if all the FIRs are not withdrawn and the detained students are not released soon. At the same time, the government says that further action will be taken only within the ambit of law.
