From election promise to government plan
The issue of providing monthly financial assistance to women in Delhi was one of the major election promises during the last assembly elections. In its election manifesto, BJP had promised to give Rs 2,500 every month to eligible women. According to political analysts, this announcement was considered one of the major reasons for the party’s electoral lead.
At the same time, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) had also promised to provide financial assistance to women, but could not implement this scheme during its rule. Later, in case the government is formed, Arvind Kejriwal had announced to give Rs 2,100 per month to women. For this, a registration campaign was also started at the party level.
Now, taking forward its election announcement, the BJP government has changed the name of Mahila Samriddhi Yojana to ‘Delhi Lakshmi Yojana’. According to the government plan, this scheme will be started from August 28 (Rakshabandhan) and eligible women will be provided financial assistance of Rs 2,500 every month.
