For the first time, families of Delhi police officers injured in the violence at Jantar Mantar during the CJP protest have come forward to share their anguish. They alleged that while maintaining law and order, police officers were targeted, while a blame campaign was launched on social media. At a press conference held at the Constitution Club, the wives, sons, and daughters of the injured police officers shared their horrific experiences of that night and demanded justice.
The wife of the injured ACP said, ‘Behind every uniform there is a family’
Upneet Kaur, wife of ACP Arshdeep, who was injured in the violence, said the entire family was in shock when her husband returned home with serious injuries. She said the police repeatedly appealed to protesters to maintain peace, but despite this, stones, bottles, and other objects were thrown at the officers. She said that policemen are not alone; entire families stand behind their uniforms. She also clarified that not all students are being blamed, but rather, action is being demanded against the anti-social elements who incited violence.
‘The family was horrified to see the blood-soaked uniform’
Kunjal, the daughter of injured Sub-Inspector Sandeep, said that her father, a Marine Commando in the Indian Navy for 15 years, was deployed on the front lines during the protests. When he arrived home injured on the night of July 25th, his uniform was soaked in blood and he had four stitches on his head. She alleged that the mob had lynched her father. Kunjal said that while her father was protecting the capital, attempts were made to portray him as a criminal on social media.
The family raised their voice in Parliament
Seema, the wife of injured ASI Dharmendra Singh, said that her husband had told her over the phone that some miscreants had attacked the police with stones and deadly weapons. Later, when they returned home, his safety helmet was completely damaged. Meanwhile, Lakshya, the son of injured ACP Kailash Bisht, said that he was horrified to see his father in the hospital with stitches on his head. The family appealed to Parliament and the nation to listen to the suffering of the injured policemen and their families and to ensure strict action against the culprits by conducting an impartial investigation into the violence.
