Prime Minister Narendra Modi has issued a major statement regarding the youth who allegedly used abusive language against him and his late mother during a recent protest at Delhi’s Jantar Mantar. In a video message released on social media on Friday, PM Modi said that he does not favor punishing these youth, but rather that they should be given the opportunity to learn from their mistakes and move forward on the right path.
PM Modi said he wanted to speak directly to the people about the incident. He said that the country and the world witnessed what happened at Jantar Mantar. Some misguided youth used language that is unacceptable in any civilized society. He said that he too was abused and his late mother was also subjected to abusive language.
‘Mistakes happen, but young people should be given the opportunity to learn.’
Instead of demanding strict action against the youth’s actions, the Prime Minister emphasized the need for counseling and correction. He said that while childhood and adolescence are a time when people can make mistakes, they are also a time when they can learn from their mistakes.
PM Modi said that he did not know the mental state of those young people at the time, but that youthful mistakes should be learned from and the opportunity to move forward. He also appealed to society to respond to this incident with understanding and compassion, rather than hatred.
‘I want to forgive them’
PM Modi said he wanted to forgive the youth involved in the Jantar Mantar incident and hoped society would accept his appeal. Citing an example, he said that sometimes our tongue gets caught between our teeth and can even bleed, but we don’t break our teeth because both our teeth and our tongues belong to us. Similarly, PM Modi called the youth involved in the protests his own, saying it was society’s responsibility to show them the right path.
“Punishment or prosecution will not solve the problem.”
The Prime Minister stated that simply punishing, sending them to court, or harassing their families will not solve the problem. He urged young people to understand their mistakes and learn from them. PM Modi said that young people should focus their energy on improving the country’s future. He expressed hope that these young people will learn from their mistakes and contribute to the country’s progress.
