Kishanganj: Kishanganj police have achieved a major success in the campaign against illegal lottery business in the district.
Police raided a rented house in Mohiuddinpur Ward No. 1 of the city and recovered 3,19,200 illegal lottery tickets worth about Rs 1 crore 48 lakh 50 thousand and Rs 23,450 in cash.
On the instructions of Superintendent of Police Harimohan Shukla, on the basis of secret information, this action was taken by a special team formed under the leadership of Sub-Divisional Police Officer-1 Khusru Siraj.
According to the police, information was received that illegal lottery tickets were being stored on a large scale in a rented house and were being supplied in bulk in the district.
A large quantity of lottery tickets of various denominations were recovered during the raid. Upon questioning, residents of the house revealed that Mohammad Akbar, a resident of the Galgalia police station area of North Dinajpur district in West Bengal, had been importing illegal lottery tickets and selling them to various people in Kishanganj and surrounding areas.
Police are now investigating other members of the gang, the source of the tickets, and their backward and forward links. Action will also be taken to identify and confiscate the illegal assets acquired through crime. Kishanganj Police Station Case No. 62/2026 has been registered in this matter.
Further legal action is being taken by registering an FIR against the accused under various sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC)-2023 along with relevant sections of the Bihar Ban on Lottery Act.
According to police records, two previous cases related to illegal lottery trading were registered against the accused at Kishanganj Police Station. The raiding team included SDPO-1 Khusro Siraj, Station House Officer Mukesh Kumar, and several other police officers from Kishanganj Police Station and armed forces personnel.
