Iran put a stop to the agreement with America, also refused Islamabad talks; increased diplomatic tension

Tehran. Amidst the ongoing tension in West Asia, Iran has adopted a tough stance regarding the agreement with America. Tehran has alleged that Washington did not comply with its obligations related to the ceasefire, so it will not implement the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) at this time. Along with this, Iran has also refused to participate in the proposed second round of talks in Islamabad.

Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Ismail Baghai said in a press conference that unless the US fulfills its commitments, there is no possibility of any new agreement between the two countries. After his statement, diplomatic tension in the region has increased further.

America accused of breaking promises

Ismail Baghai said that relations between Iran and America are currently going through a period of uncertainty. According to him, America has not followed its promises and that is why the further process has been stopped.

Referring to recent military incidents, he said that the action taken by Iran against American bases was done in self-defense. Baghai said that unless the other side honors its obligations, negotiations cannot proceed.

  • Controversy increases over Strait of Hormuz

The Iranian spokesman also objected to US activities in the Strait of Hormuz. He alleged that the US’s actions in the region have violated the spirit of the ceasefire agreement and interfered in Iran’s sovereignty.

Baghai said Iran is committed to the security of this strategic sea route and considers it a matter of its national security. According to him, till now Iran has been shouldering the responsibility of ensuring the safety of ships passing through this route.

America held responsible for regional instability

The Iranian Foreign Ministry accused the US of increasing instability in West Asia. Baghai said that the claim of providing US naval protection to commercial ships could increase tensions instead of reducing them. He said such activities could affect international maritime trade and confidence in the shipping sector.

Proposed talks in Islamabad also postponed

Iran also denied reports of joining the proposed second round of talks in Pakistan’s capital Islamabad. The Ministry of External Affairs clarified that no such meeting has been confirmed at present.

It is noteworthy that last month, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between the two countries with the aim of reducing tension and after this several rounds of talks were also held in Switzerland. However, mistrust between the two countries has increased again after recent incidents near the Strait of Hormuz.
