New Delhi: Indian women boxers made history at the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow. In the women’s 51kg final, 25-year-old Sakshi Chaudhary defeated England’s Ruby White 5-0 to win the gold medal.
Sakshi took control of the match from the very first round. She utilized her height and range effectively, keeping Ruby at bay with constant jabs. Ruby attempted to fight in close quarters, but was rendered ineffective by Sakshi’s agile footwork and body movement.
Ruby attempted a comeback in the second round and landed a powerful overhand punch. Despite this, the judges awarded the round 4-1 to Sakshi. With the unanimous victory, Sakshi claimed her first CWG gold medal. This was India’s third boxing gold of the day.
Priya and Arundhati found a box full of gold
Just minutes after Sakshi’s victory, Priya Ghanghas also brought glory to the country. In the 60kg final, Priya defeated Canada’s Marie-Bathol Al-Ahmadieh 4-1. Her punching and ring control showed she was playing the entire match at her own pace.
Then, within an hour, India received its third gift. In the 70kg final, Arundhati Chaudhary completely dominated England’s Chantelle Reid to win the gold. With these three victories, India now has five gold medals in boxing. This is India’s best performance in boxing at any Commonwealth Games.
