Sinhagad Fort Closed: The famous Sinhagad Fort in Pune will be completely closed for tourists on Saturday and Sunday, i.e. August 1 and 2, 2026. The administration has taken this precautionary decision after the India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued a ‘red alert’ of heavy rainfall for Pune district. Considering the possible rush of tourists to Sinhagad due to the holidays on Saturday and Sunday and the security threat, the Pune Forest Department has imposed a two-day entry ban.
High risk of landslides
Sinhagad and its surrounding ghat areas have been receiving continuous heavy rains for the past few days. Due to the heavy rains, the mountain slopes have become loose, and there is a strong possibility of landslides on the main ghat road as well as the paths leading to the fort or large stones and trees coming on the road. Earlier, in July, there was a landslide near the main entrance of the fort. Strict security on main ghat road and footpaths
The Pune Forest Department’s Deputy Conservator of Forests has issued official orders in this regard. According to this order, the main ghat road leading to the fort will be completely closed for traffic for two days. Not only the main road, but also other back roads or trails used by trekkers have been strictly prohibited from reaching the fort. Administration appeals to citizens
The forest department and local police have strongly appealed to citizens, trekkers and tourists to avoid going to the Sinhagad area this weekend. The administration has clarified that citizens should cooperate with the administration by not crowding in this sensitive hilly area to enjoy monsoon tourism.
