Demand for Dharmendra Pradhan’s resignation grows
Wangchuk launched the fast to back the students’ movement demanding accountability over alleged irregularities in competitive examinations and seeking the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan. The protest has gathered support from several opposition leaders, activists and public figures over the past few days.
Earlier, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) chief Arvind Kejriwal announced that he would visit Jantar Mantar to extend support to Wangchuk, while Congress MP Shashi Tharoor appealed to the activist to end his fast, saying the country needs his voice. Farmer leader Rakesh Tikait has also announced his support for the protest.
Meanwhile, concerns over Wangchuk’s health continue to grow. According to his supporters and doctors, he has lost significant weight during the hunger strike. On Thursday, the Delhi High Court directed authorities to conduct daily medical examinations and provide timely medical intervention if his condition deteriorates, stressing that the life of every citizen is precious.
The CJP has also announced a march to Parliament on July 20, signaling that the protest is likely to intensify in the coming days.
