Swift action by Gujarat ATS, 5 suspected terrorists associated with Jaish-e-Mohammed arrested, there was a conspiracy for serial blast
Ahmedabad: The country’s security agencies have once again claimed to have foiled a major terrorist conspiracy in time. Gujarat Anti Terrorist Squad (ATS) has arrested five more suspected terrorists while taking action against a module linked to the banned terrorist organization Jaish-e-Mohammed. Initial investigation has revealed that this network was preparing to carry out large-scale explosions in the country. Even before this, eight people associated with the same module have been arrested. The agencies are now investigating the entire network and its foreign contacts in depth.
Gujarat ATS conducted raids in Siddhaur and surrounding areas of North Gujarat and detained five suspects. According to officials, after these arrests the number of people arrested related to this module has increased. Investigating agencies say that all the arrested accused are being continuously interrogated to find out who else is involved in this network and to what areas their activities were spread.

The mastermind had prepared the entire network
During preliminary investigation, the agencies came to know that this module was allegedly being operated by Mohammad Ayub and Amin Shera. Both are accused of collecting special chemicals, gun powder and other necessary materials to prepare explosives. Investigation has also revealed that the members of the module were preparing explosives in a planned manner and preparing to use them. The agencies are now also trying to find out from where this material was procured and which network was used for it.
Explosive tests conducted in rural areas
According to the investigating officers, the accused had chosen deserted places in rural areas to test their explosive system. It is being told that they tested their preparation and the capacity of the network by carrying out small scale explosions seven to eight times. Security agencies believe that the purpose of these tests was to check technical preparedness before carrying out any major attack in future.
Keep building networks away from cities
During interrogation, it has also come to light that the accused were deliberately active in villages and remote areas instead of cities. They felt that security agencies mainly monitor big cities, hence their activities in rural areas can easily remain hidden. However, Gujarat ATS was monitoring this entire network for a long time. After getting sufficient evidence, the agency took action by conducting a coordinated operation and arrested five more suspects.
Also tried to make a ‘time bomb’
During the hearing of the case, public prosecutor P.R. Dantani told the court that ATS had sought custody of the accused for detailed interrogation. ATS informed the court that one of the arrested accused had allegedly tried to prepare a ‘time bomb’. The investigating agency says that some material used in making bombs and Urdu literature related to Jaish-e-Mohammed is yet to be recovered. Further investigation is going on to recover them.
Arrests have already been made
Earlier on July 3, Gujarat ATS had arrested eight alleged members associated with Jaish-e-Mohammed by conducting operations in different areas of Gujarat and adjacent Madhya Pradesh. At that time the police had said that this group was trying to create a terrorist network in Gujarat. Now after the new arrests, the investigating agencies are thoroughly investigating the activities, funding, contacts and possible associates of the entire module. Security agencies say that at present the interrogation of all the accused is going on. Only after the investigation is completed, it will be clear how big was the plan of this network and to which parts of the country or foreign countries its wires were connected.
