KTM has officially confirmed the news that it is working on its new RC 490 bike. According to information received from the company’s senior management, this new twin-supersport bike will take a place above the 390 series in KTM’s global line-up. This bike is likely to be launched by the end of 2027.

This new bike will be based on a sub-500cc twin-cylinder platform that is being co-developed with Bajaj and KTM.
Different from the RC 450 in China
The KTM RC 450 sold in China is based on the 449cc engine from CFMoto and is unlikely to come to India. However, the project of the new RC 490 is completely different and Bajaj has a big stake in it.

This new engine will be manufactured at Bajaj’s plant in Chakan, which will further strengthen India’s position on the global stage.
Engine and Performance
KTM has not yet released official engine capacity or power figures. But since this bike is manufactured under the European A2 license category, its power is expected to be less than 48 bhp (35 kW). Since it is manufactured in Chakan, this twin-cylinder engine will see great performance and refinement.
Design and market position
MotoGP technology
According to KTM, its upcoming supersport bikes will see a lot of influence from MotoGP experiences and design. Therefore, the RC 490 will see a more aggressive and sharp design.

Indian market strategy
This bike may replace the 390 series in the international market, but in India, KTM may continue the 390 series as an affordable option, while the new RC 490 may be presented as a premium and more refined option.
Other new models to come
This new twin-cylinder platform will not only house the RC 490, but also the 490 Duke and 490 Adventure. The Duke model is likely to be launched before the Adventure. The global debut of all these series is likely to happen by the end of 2027.
