Under-19 World Cup hero Manjeet Kalra arrested, allegations of match fixing in LPL create stir
Manjot Kalra Arrested For LPL Match Fixing: Manjeet Kalra, the star batsman who won India the 2018 Under-19 World Cup, is in trouble. He has been arrested in an alleged case of corruption during the ongoing Lanka Premier League (LPL) 2026 in Sri Lanka. The Special Investigation Unit (SIU) of Sri Lanka Police detained Kalra on Friday, after which he was produced in the court. The court has sent him to judicial custody till July 31. Another Indian citizen Yuvraj Pushpa has also been arrested in this case.
Accused of being involved in corrupt activities
According to reports, it is alleged that a player was offered money to indulge in corrupt activity during the tournament. It is being told that this matter had come to the notice of the investigating agencies even before the start of the tournament, after which action was taken on the very first day of LPL 2026.

Sri Lanka Cricket adopted ‘Zero Tolerance’ Policy
Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) has taken a tough stance on this matter and made it clear that it has ‘zero tolerance’ against corruption. The policy will continue. The board said in an official statement that if the investigating agencies ask for any kind of assistance, they will be given full cooperation. It was also made clear that this dispute will not have any impact on the tournament and LPL will continue as per its schedule.
Independent organizations also involved in the investigation
Sri Lanka Cricket also said that before the start of the tournament, its ‘Anti-Corruption Unit’ Had worked closely with government investigative agencies. Apart from this, to maintain transparency in the game, services of independent organizations have also been taken, which are helping the players and teams in anti-corruption awareness and monitoring.

27-year-old Manjeet Kalra played an important role in India winning the title by scoring an unbeaten century against Australia in the 2018 Under-19 World Cup final. Kalra, who was the hero of that team captained by Prithvi Shaw, later joined the sports business and became the co-owner of Jaffna Kings before LPL 2026.
The final decision will be taken in the court
Manjeet Kalra’s arrest came hours before Jaffna Kings’ first match of the season. However, Sri Lanka Cricket reiterated that all necessary steps have been taken to maintain the credibility of the league and the competition will continue without any interruption. At present the investigation of the case is going on and the final decision on the charges will be taken only after the hearing in the court.
