In a statement issued by Geneva, UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Volker Turk appealed for peace in Pakistan Occupied Kashmir ahead of the elections.

According to the statement, multiple deaths have been reported in Pakistan Occupied Kashmir since June. Most of them are protestors. However, several security guards also died. Turk said there should be an immediate, thorough and impartial investigation into all these deaths. The deaths of both protesters and security forces should be investigated. Meanwhile, the Pakistan government has banned the Joint Awami Action Committee (JAAC), which led protests in Occupied Kashmir. Many activists were arrested. The United Nations has also condemned this incident.

Criminalizing a civil society organization and imposing strict restrictions on public gatherings is completely unjustified, the statement said. This incident violates fundamental rights such as freedom of expression, right to peaceful assembly and freedom of association. Which is definitely a concern. Turk said the detained JAAC leaders should be given legal assistance and an opportunity to meet their families. At the same time, the right to fair trial and due process should be fully protected by the Government of Pakistan. At the same time, the United Nations has appealed for the immediate start of internet services in Occupied Kashmir.

It should be noted that the people of Pakistan Occupied Kashmir are fed up with the repression of the Pakistan government, even if there was an abnormal rate of tax increase and inflation.
