Airstrikes aimed at IRGC-linked targets
CENTCOM said the strikes were intended to weaken Iran’s ability to threaten commercial shipping through the Strait of Hormuz and to respond to attacks carried out by forces linked to Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC). The strategic waterway remains one of the world’s most important oil transit routes.
Casualties mount in the conflict
The attack on the US military base in Jordan took place on July 17 while American and partner forces were defending against incoming missiles and drones. Four injured personnel were evacuated to hospitals in Jordan and later discharged, while others with minor injuries returned to duty.
