Chinese Logitech reseller fined for ad likening shoppers to dogs
A Chinese distributor for Swiss peripherals maker Logitech has been fined 200,000 yuan (US$29,500) for a promotional video that told shoppers they would come running “like a dog” once prices dropped.
The market regulator in Shanghai’s Jing’an District penalized Shanghai Best International Trade Co, which runs Logitech’s official flagship store on Douyin, the Chinese version of TikTok, China News reported, citing China’s National Enterprise Credit Information Publicity System.
Regulators found the ad breached China’s Advertising Law by offending social morals and public decency, according to the Global Times.
The clip promoted Logitech’s G Pro Wireless (GPW 3) gaming mouse and appeared on March 26 under the “Logitech G Official Flagship Store” account. “You say you won’t spend another penny, but the moment I cut the price, won’t you come running like a dog?” it said.
It was taken down the same day as anger spread across Chinese social media, drawing commentary from state broadcaster CCTV.
Logitech China apologized that night on Weibo, calling the content highly inappropriate and saying it was shocked and dismayed. It said an employee of the store’s operator had posted the video after bypassing the company’s internal review, and promised closer oversight of its authorized sellers.
