Uttarakhand Rain Alert: NH-5 closed due to landslide in Kinnaur, several roads including Badrinath Highway affected

Kinnaur, July 6. Landslides have increased in Uttarakhand and the Himalayan region amid continuous rainfall. National Highway-5 (NH-5) was blocked in Nigulsari, Nichar area of ​​Kinnaur district, after light rain on Tuesday morning due to falling rocks from the mountains. Rockfalls continue in the area, hampering road restoration work.

Administration bans traffic in Nigulsari

The administration has appealed to people not to travel near the Nigulsari landslide area. Alternative routes have been arranged for vehicles, but the risk of rocks falling from the mountains remains there during the rain. Administration teams are working continuously to remove debris and rocks, but the falling rocks are hampering relief and road reopening operations.

Several major roads affected by landslides

The impact of landslides has been felt in other areas as well. A landslide in Helang has affected the Badrinath National Highway, while debris in Amsaud has completely blocked the Narayanbagadh-Karnprayag main road.

Continuous Bad Weather in the Nichar Area

The weather in Kinnaur district has been bad for the past several days. The Nichar area has been experiencing morning and evening rain. However, the Pooh and Kalpa areas have experienced cloudy skies with light rain. The Nigulsari and Nathpa Jhula areas are already considered landslide-prone during the rainy season. Gardeners and farmers also face travel difficulties during the apple and pea season.

Heavy Rain Alert in Several Districts of Uttarakhand

According to the Meteorological Center, light to moderate rain and thundershowers are expected in most districts of the state on Thursday. Heavy rain and lightning are expected in Dehradun, Chamoli, and Bageshwar districts. A yellow alert has been issued for Tehri, Uttarkashi, Pauri, Pithoragarh, Champawat, Nainital, and Rudraprayag. A warning has also been issued for Haridwar and Udham Singh Nagar for rain and thunderstorms.
