Leader of Opposition in Karnataka Assembly and senior BJP leader R. Ashok announced that the BJP will protest outside the Karnataka Congress office in Bengaluru on Wednesday. He accused the Congress and Rahul Gandhi of indulging in “political drama” over the NEET issue, saying the party was ignoring serious issues in Karnataka, such as the drought situation and the deaths during RCB’s victory celebrations.
Speaking to the media, Ashok said that the Congress leadership is busy protesting in Delhi instead of dealing with the severe drought prevailing in large parts of Karnataka.
He alleged that the state government was not dealing with the drought situation effectively. Also Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar, accused ministers, former ministers and MLAs of being busy in political activities in the national capital.
Ashok said, “Almost the entire part of the state is in the grip of drought. Till now 175 taluks have been affected and only a few districts have been spared from it. But today the government is not visible in Karnataka. The government should immediately declare drought and allocate Rs 20-20 crore for drinking water works in each assembly constituency and taluk.”
He also demanded setting up of Drought Task Force at each taluk level to monitor the drought situation and provide quick solutions. Regarding Congress’s protest in Delhi on NEET issue, Ashok alleged that the party is trying to take political advantage.
Taking a dig at Rahul Gandhi, he said, “Congress is protesting near the Prime Minister’s Office over NEET. This is a restricted area and this is a purely political protest. Rahul Gandhi has time to join these protests, but no time to speak about the 11 innocent people who lost their lives during the RCB celebrations in Bengaluru.”
Referring to the stampede-like incident that took place during RCB’s victory celebrations, Ashok raised the question whether any action has been taken against those responsible in this matter. He alleged that the issue was deliberately ignored.
He said the BJP’s demonstration outside the Congress office would be used to highlight the BJP’s ignoring of Karnataka issues and the failures of the Congress leadership.
Ashok said, “You have the right to speak in Parliament, but you have shown failure in fulfilling your responsibilities. Rahul Gandhi has not been worthy of playing the role of leader of the opposition.”
He told that BJP MLAs and a large number of party workers will participate in this demonstration. Political allegations and counter-allegations have intensified between the ruling Congress and the opposition BJP regarding drought preparations, NEET controversy and other administrative issues in Karnataka.
