Tezzbuzz Desk – The fourth day of the monsoon session of Parliament was also marred by huge uproar. Due to opposition’s protest and continuous sloganeering, the proceedings of Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha had to be adjourned repeatedly. Ultimately the proceedings of both the houses were adjourned for the whole day. During this period, the poem by Leader of Opposition in Rajya Sabha Mallikarjun Kharge and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju’s objection to it remained the center of discussion.
Kharge expressed protest by reading poetry in Rajya Sabha
When Rajya Sabha proceedings resumed at around 3 pm, Deputy Chairman Harivansh allowed Leader of Opposition Mallikarjun Kharge to speak. Kharge started reading the poem with a page in his hand.
He said,
“Will die to keep the truth alive,
This heart, this life will sacrifice everything,
But we will face every challenge to eradicate injustice from the country…”
Even before Kharge could speak further, the Deputy Chairman stopped him and gave Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju a chance to speak.
Kiren Rijiju angry at Kharge
Union Minister Kiren Rijiju said that there is talk of starting a formal discussion in the House, but the opposition is registering its protest by repeatedly reading the written things. He said that the House cannot run like this.
After this, Deputy Chairman Harivansh clarified that his objective was to run the proceedings of the House smoothly. However, in view of the continuing uproar, he adjourned the Rajya Sabha proceedings till 11 am on Friday. During this, the opposition MPs kept raising slogans demanding the resignation of Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan.
Proceedings could not be carried out even in the Lok Sabha
The day also started with uproar in the Lok Sabha. As soon as the proceedings began, Speaker Om Birla said that only Question Hour will continue during the Question Hour and appealed to the members to maintain order.
Despite this, the opposition MPs reached the well and continued sloganeering. Amidst the noise, the Speaker first adjourned the proceedings of the House till 12 noon.
Lok Sabha adjourned for the day after repeated adjournments
The House proceedings resumed at 12 noon, but the opposition’s protest continued. The listed government business was completed amid the uproar and the House was adjourned till 2 pm.
At 2 pm, panel chairman Dilip Saikia tried to start the discussion under Rule 377, but the opposition members continued to stand in the well. Repeated appeals also had no effect. Ultimately, due to continuous disruption, the proceedings of the Lok Sabha were also adjourned for the whole day.
