Chief Judicial Council Protest: In light of the protests and security situation, the Union Home Ministry has issued an important order. A large number of youth from across the country have gathered at Jantar Mantar in Delhi in support of the Chief Judicial Council. Given serious security concerns, the Home Ministry has ordered the suspension of internet services within a 1.5-kilometer radius of Jantar Mantar from 4:00 PM to 12:00 AM on July 23rd.
This decision was taken after incidents of violence in Central Delhi.
The main reason for Thursday’s order was sporadic incidents of violence during the protests. At least six policemen, including two senior ACP-rank officers, were injured in violent clashes in central Delhi.
On Tuesday, a 45-year-old Rapid Action Force (RAF) jawan was allegedly attacked with swords and sticks by a protesting mob in the Connaught Place area.
In light of these violent incidents and security threats, police have also activated mobile jammers in the area surrounding the protest site. A heavy police presence has been deployed in the area to maintain law and order.
In view of the serious law and order situation in Delhi’s central area Connaught Place (CP), all shops, offices and restaurants have been strictly advised to close by 6:30 pm.
Amid tight security arrangements, the New Delhi Traders Association (NDTA) took this important decision after receiving telephonic instructions from the Chairman and Vice Chairman of the New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC).
Appeal for cooperation from the business community
The merchant association urged all shopkeepers, office and restaurant managers to comply with these instructions and extend full cooperation to the administration. The association clarified that this step was taken in light of the serious situation arising from the CJP movement and protests around Connaught Place.
Chief Justice reacts sharply to PIL related to NIA probe
Meanwhile, Saurabh Das, spokesperson for the Chief Judicial Council, who is protesting at Jantar Mantar in Delhi, shared a post on the social media platform X (formerly Twitter) and made a serious claim. He said, “It is highly suspicious that a person with a right-wing ideology is filing a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) demanding an NIA investigation against the Chief Judicial Council.”
Appealing to the judiciary, he wrote, “We request the courts not to become a weapon in the hands of this government. The entire young generation of the country is looking towards the judiciary with hope at this time.”
Controversy surrounding Sonam Wangchuk’s activities and hospital detention
Speaking about Sonam Wangchuk’s health, Saurabh Das alleged that the order passed by the Delhi High Court on a PIL related to Sonam Wangchuk’s health was misused.
According to them, authorities used this order as a pretext to forcibly remove Sonam Wangchuk from the protest site and detain him in a hospital. This incident further fueled the protesters’ anger and intensified the protests.
