Suspicious death of Tripura DGP Anurag Dhankhar creates stir, fear of suicide, agencies engaged in investigation

Uttar Pradesh. The death under suspicious circumstances of Anurag Dhankhar, a native of Baghpat district of UP and Director General of Police of Tripura, has shocked the entire police department. His body was found at the police headquarters in Agartala on Monday morning. The officials immediately took him to the hospital but the doctors declared him dead. In the initial investigation, suicide is suspected, however, the police and forensic team are thoroughly investigating every aspect. No final conclusion has been drawn regarding the actual cause of death until the investigation is completed.

Anurag Dhankhar was a senior Indian Police Service officer of 1994 batch. He held many important responsibilities in his long administrative career. He was known as a strict and fair officer. He also played an important role in the investigation of cases related to the 1984 anti-Sikh riots, due to which he came into discussion at the national level.

As soon as the news of his sudden death came to light, there was a wave of mourning in the police department and administrative circles. After securing the incident site, police and forensic experts have started investigation. According to officials, all the facts and circumstances found from the spot are being analyzed scientifically so that the real cause of death can be revealed.

Anurag Dhankhar was a resident of Biharipur village in Baghpat district of Uttar Pradesh. According to the villagers, he last visited his native village about twenty-five years ago. His ancestral house is still present in the village but has been closed for a long time. Local people say that the family members no longer live in the village.

His early life was spent in a very ordinary environment. He received his education from primary school in the village and later went to Delhi for higher education. After completing his studies, he passed the Civil Services Examination and was selected in the Indian Police Service. On the basis of hard work and honesty, he served on many important posts in the police service and eventually became the Director General of Police of Tripura.

He is survived by his wife Kalpana and son Abhishek. Abhishek currently lives in Canada. He also has two brothers, one of whom runs a business in Baraut while the other has been working in the private sector after retiring from the Air Force.

His childhood friends described him as a disciplined, hard-working person with an interest in sports. According to his classmates, he was a good volleyball player and always showed leadership abilities. These same qualities were visible later in his administrative career also.

At present, many questions are being raised regarding this incident that took place at the police headquarters. However, the investigating agencies are investigating every aspect impartially. Officials say that further action will be taken only on the basis of post-mortem report, forensic investigation and other evidence. Meanwhile, the police department has expressed deep condolences on his demise and has assured a transparent investigation into the entire matter. The sudden demise of Anurag Dhankhar, who was counted among the senior police officers of the country, is being considered a big loss for the administrative world.
