Vande Mataram Bill in Rajya Sabha

The Central Government has introduced an important bill in the Rajya Sabha regarding Vande Mataram. According to this bill, Vande Mataram has been given the same status as the national anthem. The Central Government has made important changes in the Prevention of Insults to National Honor Act. After this this bill has been introduced in the Rajya Sabha. According to the rules of this bill, it is proposed to give constitutional status and respect to India’s national anthem ‘Vande Mataram’ like the national anthem (Jana Gana Mana).

According to the new section of this Act, insulting Vande Mataram while singing or performing in public will be punishable by law. The person doing this can be jailed for up to 3 years. Apart from this, there is also a rule for imposing monetary fine in this new bill. The bill states that either or both jail and fine can be imposed. Therefore, in future, those who insult Vande Mataram will be punished under this law.

These punishments have been made more stringent. The issue of patriotism and respect for national symbols has consistently been on the agenda of the Bharatiya Janata Party. Accordingly, efforts are being made to make this bill more stringent. This bill was introduced in the Rajya Sabha today, Friday. At that time the opposition was demanding the resignation of Dharmendra Pradhan. Because of this there was an uproar in the Rajya Sabha. This bill was introduced in this uproar. Apart from this, it also got approval through voice vote. This could not be discussed due to the uproar.

The opposition is aggressive for the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan. Because of this the first week of the monsoon session was wasted without work. Congress is adamant on its demand. He has taken the stand that there will be no discussion without Pradhan’s resignation. Apart from this, CJP’s agitation on the streets has intensified. Because of this the government is in a dilemma from both sides. In such a situation, despite the uproar, the government has approved this important bill.
