Bucharest, 24 July. Indian President Draupadi Murmu, who reached Romania in the third and final leg of the three European countries, was honored with an honorary doctorate degree by the Bucharest University of Economic Studies. On the occasion of the ceremony organized in the capital Bucharest on Friday, President Murmu called for increasing cooperation between the educational institutions of India and Romania, calling education, research and global cooperation the cornerstone of a better future of humanity.
Emphasis given on joint research and student-teacher exchange
Addressing the ceremony, President Murmu appealed to the University of Bucharest and other educational institutions of Romania to conduct joint research, exchange of teachers and students and further strengthen academic cooperation. He said that international partnership in the field of education will lead to innovation and expansion of knowledge.

The President said that today the world is going through a period of rapid progress in Artificial Intelligence (AI), digital technologies and science. In such times, the responsibility of universities is not limited to just imparting knowledge, but also to ensure that knowledge is accompanied by wisdom, morality and humanity.

President Murmu said that education is not just a medium for an individual’s progress but is the strongest foundation of a just and inclusive society. Recalling his time as a teacher, he said that even a simple classroom can change the future of a family and its positive impact can gradually reach the entire society.

President Murmu said that India and Romania may be geographically distant, but there has been a deep connection between the civilizations of the two countries for a long time. He told that in November 1926, Gurudev Rabindranath Tagore had given a lecture on the unity of humanity at the National Theater in Bucharest. At the same time, Romania’s national poet Mihai Eminescu had studied the Upanishads and the Bhagavad Gita during his student days, which had a deep impact on his literature.
