One Indian killed in attack on commercial ship in Black Sea, Foreign Ministry expressed deep concern

New Delhi, 24 July. An Indian citizen lost his life in an attack on a commercial ship in the Black Sea. The Foreign Ministry has condemned the attack and described the incident as a matter of grave concern.

According to the Foreign Ministry, the ship named MV Omorphy was passing through Russia’s territorial waters in the Black Sea on July 18 when it was attacked. There were 10 crew members on board the ship at the time of the attack, including three Indians.

“As per available information, one Indian citizen has tragically died in the attack,” the ministry said in a statement. We express our deepest condolences to the bereaved family. The remaining two Indians are safe.

The ministry further said that India strongly condemns such attacks on commercial ships, which endanger the lives of innocent civilian crew members. Increasing threats to free navigation and international trade are a matter of concern. India appeals to all concerned to ensure the safety of maritime navigation and uninterrupted flow of global commerce.

According to the Ministry of External Affairs, the Indian Mission has contacted the relevant authorities of Russia and is trying to provide all possible help to the affected family.
