Dhaka. Bangladesh has once again accused India of forcibly pushing people into its border. Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) has claimed that with the help of local people, it foiled an attempt by the Indian Border Security Force (BSF) to push five people into Bangladeshi territory at Chuadanga border in the early hours of Tuesday. BGB has several times in recent times accused BSF of push-in (forcibly pushing people across the border).
A statement issued by Chuadanga battalion of BGB said that the incident took place at around 4 am on Tuesday near Border Pillar 76/4-S under the jurisdiction of Darshan Border Outpost (BOP). Gede Camp soldiers of 32 BSF battalion tried to wrongly enter five unknown people into Bangladesh. These included one man, three women and a child.
Accusations made against BSF
BGB claimed that their patrolling team tried to send people to BSF across the border. Due to opposition from BGB, the group had to stop near the barbed wire fence on the border. Major Habib Hasan, acting commander of Chuadanga Battalion (6 BGB), said that the soldiers have been put on alert.
Bangladesh is once again accusing India of push-in. This week, Bangladesh Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed has said that India has repeatedly tried to push people towards this, but with the help of local people, the Indian side has stopped these efforts.
Dispute on India-Bangladesh border
India and Bangladesh share a 4,096 km long border. This border has been at the center of tension for the last few months. In fact, India, especially the government of West Bengal, has recently launched a campaign to deport illegal Bangladeshis. The Bangladeshi side is opposing this. Indian security forces sending back Bangladeshi citizens and Bangladesh’s opposition to it is causing tension between BSF-BGB. A meeting was held between India and Bangladesh in early June regarding border security and management, but tension remains between the two sides.
