Flood situation worsens in Assam, PM Modi talks to CM Himanta; Assurance of all possible help for relief and rescue

Prime Minister Narendra Modi Assures All Possible Support To Assam: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday spoke to Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on the current flood situation in the state and assured all possible help from the Center for relief, rehabilitation and reconstruction works. Chief Minister Sarma said through a post on Instagram that the Prime Minister had called him to take stock of the flood situation, the scale of damage caused by the floods, the progress of relief operations and the challenges being faced by the state administration.

Information given about relief work

The Chief Minister said he briefed the Prime Minister about the steps that the Assam government is taking to provide relief to the affected people and ensure that help reaches every family affected by the floods. Prime Minister Modi expressed deep sorrow over the huge loss of life and property caused by the floods and reiterated that the Central Government stands firmly with the people of Assam in this time of crisis. The Chief Minister said in the post that the Prime Minister has assured that the Government of India is giving the highest priority to this disaster and will provide all possible help in relief, rehabilitation and reconstruction works.

Expressed gratitude to the Prime Minister

Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma also expressed his gratitude to the Prime Minister on behalf of the people of Assam for the continuous support and assurance during the current flood emergency. Sarma said that the people of Assam are extremely grateful to Honorable Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his continuous support during these difficult times. Incessant rains in the state and neighboring areas of Assam have resulted in repeated floods, affecting many districts and displacing thousands of people.

More than 11 lakh people affected

According to the State Disaster Management Authority, more than 11 lakh people have been affected by the floods and rescue operations are going on at different places in the flood-affected districts. State agencies, district administration, National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), Army and other rescue teams are engaged in evacuating people to safe places, rescue and relief operations in the affected areas.

Relief camps and restoration work

The state government is running relief camps, distributing essential goods and repairing damaged infrastructure. Besides, it is also continuously monitoring the changing flood situation in collaboration with central agencies.
