Big news has come to light amid the ongoing students’ protest at Jantar Mantar in Delhi. The Education Minister, whose resignation the NEET candidates were continuously protesting and demanding, has finally resigned from his post.
Dharmendra Pradhan Resigns: Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan has resigned from his post amid alleged irregularities in the NEET-UG examination in India and ongoing student protests across the country. He submitted his resignation to Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday, 25 July 2026. This development has come to light at a time when students and protesters are agitating at many places including Jantar Mantar in Delhi demanding accountability in the education system and improvement in the examination process.
Dharmendra Pradhan, in his message shared on social media platform X, said that he has been dedicated to the cause of students, teachers and issues related to education reform for more than four decades. He said that he has always believed that only a strong, inclusive and visionary education system lays the foundation of a strong nation.
Priority given to students’ future
In his message, Dharmendra Pradhan said that he respects the aspirations, feelings and legitimate expectations of the youth of the country. He said that it is the moral responsibility of people associated with political and social life to fulfill the dreams of the young generation of India. Pradhan also expressed his gratitude for getting the opportunity to serve the country under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He said that the future of the youth of the country should not be affected due to any examination related irregularities or alleged examination mafia.
Decision to resign amid NEET-UG controversy
Dharmendra Pradhan also mentioned the controversy related to NEET-UG exam in his message. According to him, the government took the alleged irregularities in the examination seriously and handed over the investigation to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). He also said that corrective steps were taken regarding the examination process and emphasis was laid on making the examination system more secure and transparent in future.
He also mentioned the cooperation of the Central and State Governments and local administration in conducting the examinations of lakhs of students smoothly during his tenure. Pradhan said that his aim was to ensure that injustice is not done to any deserving student and his hard work is not affected due to any kind of examination related malpractice.
‘It’s not a matter of personal prestige’
Announcing his resignation, Dharmendra Pradhan said that he was saddened by the developments that have unfolded in the last few days. He clarified that for him it is not a matter of personal prestige, but the future of the youth and students of the country is most important. He said that no one should be able to take wrong advantage of the situation prevailing in Jantar Mantar and other parts of the country, the unity of the country should be maintained and the future of the students should not get entangled in legal or political disputes – keeping these things in mind, he decided to send his resignation to the Prime Minister.
Resignation among the main demands in CJP protest
Dharmendra Pradhan’s resignation was among the major demands of the long-running student movement. In the ongoing protest at Delhi’s Jantar Mantar, CJP and other protesters had demanded accountability from the government for alleged irregularities in the examination system. During the movement, continuous pressure was created for the resignation of the Education Minister.
After the news of resignation came out, there was a reaction among the supporters and students present at the protest site. However, some representatives associated with the movement have indicated that their other demands are still pending and a final decision is yet to be taken on whether the movement will end only after resignation.
