On Dharmendra Pradhan’s resignation, Sonam Wangchuk gives credit to Gen Z, says ‘peace and perseverance triumph’

New Delhi: After the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, social activist Sonam Wangchuk has called it a victory of democracy. He said that this result has come because of the peaceful movement of the youth sitting on the streets.

Wangchuk told "victory of direct democracy"

Pradhan resigned from his post on Saturday. He said that this decision was taken to save the future of the students and the ongoing protest at Jantar Mantar. "anti-national forces" has been taken to prevent being taken advantage of.

As soon as the news of resignation came, there was an atmosphere of celebration at Jantar Mantar. It was here that Wangchuk was sitting on an indefinite hunger strike with the protesters of CJP i.e. Cockroach Janata Party.

Wangchuk wrote on X, "This is the victory of peace, patience and perseverance. Congratulations to CJP and Gen Z of the country. Also thanks to all those citizens who came forward to demand accountability, leaving aside fear and intimidation."

Resignation came before talks between Center and CJP

Pradhan’s resignation came hours before the third round of talks between the Center and the CJP. CJP had already made it clear that Pradhan’s resignation was against his "non-negotiable" is seeking. According to sources, Pradhan was not dismissed.

Taking moral responsibility, he himself resigned. The government also wanted to give him a respectable farewell. Odisha-based BJP leader Dharmendra Pradhan was the Education Minister from 2021. After the return of BJP in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, he again got the responsibility of the ministry.

Now the focus of the movement will be on reform

There was a large gathering of students and youth at Jantar Mantar for the last few days. The demand of this demonstration led by CJP was transparency and accountability in education policy. Wangchuk saluted the tenacity of the Gen Z generation involved in the movement. He said that people from all over the country left their fear and came forward and expressed their views.

Now Wangchuk and CJP say that resignation is not the destination. The next step should be structural reforms in the education system so that the interests of the students are protected. At present, the government has not yet announced the name of the new Education Minister. But Wangchuk’s statement is clear – the movement will now go beyond accountability and demand change.
