Actor-comedian Vir Das reacted strongly after Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan resigned amid nationwide student protests over the alleged NEET paper leak controversy.
Through a series of posts on X and Instagram, Vir celebrated the development and urged people not to dismiss the possibility of change.
The comedian’s remarks came shortly after Pradhan announced his resignation, a move that followed weeks of protests led by the Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) and supported by activist Sonam Wangchuk.
Vir Das celebrates resignation with social media posts
Soon after the resignation became public, Vir Das shared the news on X (formerly Twitter) with a brief but enthusiastic post that read, “FRAAANDS!!!!”
He later took a humorous dig at television debates, writing that many commentators would soon claim they had predicted the development all along.
“Tonight on your TV screens at 9 pm. Many versions of ‘You know we here at ______ have been saying all along….’”
He also joked about people changing their opinions, adding, “I hope you like pancakes, you’re about to see a lot of flipping.”
‘Please shut up’: Vir Das’ message to pessimists
In a video shared on Instagram, Vir Das encouraged people to celebrate the moment without immediately dismissing it.
He said that after any significant development, there are always individuals who insist that “nothing will happen” or that “this is how things are.”
Addressing such critics directly, Vir said:
“To that person. Please, shut up. Just shut up. Just for today.”
His comments quickly gained attention on social media, with users widely sharing the clip.
‘Love is felt, hate is yelled’
Vir Das also reposted a video from one of his earlier comedy performances carrying a broader message about hope and resilience.
Sharing the clip, he wrote:
“Hate is yelled, love is felt.”
In the performance, Vir says that while hatred may appear louder, compassion and kindness ultimately endure, encouraging people to remain hopeful during difficult times.

Dharmendra Pradhan stepped down as Union Education Minister after weeks of nationwide demonstrations over the alleged NEET paper leak.
The protests, spearheaded by the Cockroach Janata Party, demanded accountability in the examination system and called for Pradhan’s resignation. The movement gained nationwide attention after activist Sonam Wangchuk joined the campaign through an indefinite hunger strike, while demonstrations intensified following the July 20 ‘Chalo Sansad’ march in Delhi.
The minister submitted his resignation on July 25, marking a major development in the ongoing student-led movement.
