Knews Desk– In the second T20 International match played between India and Zimbabwe, young all-rounder Abhishek Sharma created history with his bowling. Even though he could not play big innings in batting, as soon as he got the ball in his hand, he did such a miracle which had not been seen in Indian cricket for the last 14 years. Abhishek not only played an important role in the victory of Team India by taking three wickets, but also made a record in his name, which before him was only in the name of Virender Sehwag. In this match played at Harare Sports Club, Abhishek Sharma came to open, but he could score only 8 runs with the bat. It seemed that he was not having a good day, but when captain Shreyas Iyer handed him the ball, he changed the course of the match. With his precise line and length, he continuously troubled the Zimbabwean batsmen and took 3 important wickets for just 17 runs in 2.5 overs.
Abhishek made Brad Evans, Newman Nyamhuri and Richard Nagarava his victims. This is also the best bowling performance of his T20 International career so far. Thanks to his brilliant bowling, India succeeded in restricting Zimbabwe to a low score. With these three wickets, Abhishek Sharma registered his name in the record books of Indian cricket. He has become the first opening batsman for India to take three or more wickets in T20 International cricket. Apart from this, he is only the second player to do this as an Indian opener in international cricket.
Earlier this feat was achieved by India’s former explosive opener Virender Sehwag. Sehwag took 3 wickets for 43 runs in 9 overs in the Commonwealth Bank Tri Series ODI match against Australia at Sydney Cricket Ground on 26 February 2012. This was also the best bowling performance of his ODI career. Now after 14 years, an Indian opener has repeated the feat of taking three wickets in international cricket. Although the Indian team did not win despite Sehwag’s brilliant performance, Abhishek Sharma’s bowling proved to be a strong foundation of victory for Team India this time. He broke the back of Zimbabwe’s batting with his spell and the opposition team could never make a comeback in the match.
Abhishek Sharma has been performing consistently well for the Indian team for some time now. He is known for his aggressive batting, but in this match he also proved that he has the ability to win the match with the ball too when needed. His all-round ability can prove to be very important for the Indian team in the upcoming big tournaments. Under the captaincy of Shreyas Iyer, the Indian team is continuously giving opportunities to young players and Abhishek Sharma is among those players who have taken full advantage of every opportunity. His performance in the second T20 against Zimbabwe is an indication that India may get a great all-rounder for the future. By equaling Sehwag’s record after 14 years, Abhishek not only created history but also showed that the new generation of Indian cricket has the potential to create records on the big stage.
