Raveena Tandon Says Peaceful Student Protests Were ‘Hijacked’ by Non-Students and Political Groups

Actress Raveena Tandon has said that peaceful student protests in some states were disrupted after being “hijacked by hooligans, political parties and people looking for opportunities to gain limelight”.

Sharing her views on social media, the ‘Mohra’ actress praised student protests in Mizoram, calling them an example of peaceful expression and saying that public voices were finally being heard.

Raveena said such movements had given her hope for meaningful change and linked them with earlier campaigns related to environmental protection, wildlife conservation and deforestation.

“People are awakening and future generations have to realize that this is the only planet we have. There is no Planet B. This is what we have to save for their future,” she wrote.

The actress said peaceful protests in Mizoram and other states had set an example, but alleged that in some places, the original purpose of student movements was affected by the involvement of non-students and political groups.

She condemned incidents of violence and damage to public property, saying such actions could have derailed genuine demands raised by students. However, she expressed hope that the developments would lead to positive reforms in the education system, including reducing corruption and improving access to education.

Raveena also said that while people may have different opinions, respecting freedom of expression was important.

The actress’ comments came amid nationwide student protests over alleged examination irregularities and paper leaks. The protests, organized by the CJP, had raised concerns over the examination system and led to Dharmendra Pradhan stepping down as Union Education Minister on July 25.
