Now big movement announced against E20, taxi union preparing to surround Parliament on 4th August

New Delhi. The 36-day long student and Gen-Z movement at Jantar Mantar in Delhi has ended. After this, now preparations are being made for a big movement against ethanol also. The dissatisfaction of All India Tourist Permit (AITP) taxi drivers and transporters regarding the use of 20 percent ethanol blended petrol (E20 Fuel) in the country is now going to take to the streets. Delhi Taxi and Tourist Transporters and Tour Operators Association has announced a march to Parliament on August 4 in protest against the policies of E20 Petrol, decline in vehicle mileage and strict rules.

Association President Sanjay Samrat and other members put forward the problems of the transporters in front of the media. During this, he was seen holding sugarcane in his hands as a symbol of protest.

Engines of old vehicles are getting spoiled due to E20 petrol.

Addressing the press conference, Association President Sanjay Samrat listed the main complaints of vehicle owners and drivers regarding E20 fuel. Drivers across the country have complained that the use of petrol mixed with 20 percent ethanol has reduced the mileage of vehicles and increased the cost of engine maintenance. He said most vehicles manufactured before 2015 are not compatible with petrol with 20 per cent ethanol blend. This fuel is mainly suitable for new model vehicles only. When people are paying the full price of petrol and the fuel is becoming expensive, then why are they being given adulterated petrol?

The association has demanded that an impartial and independent scientific review be conducted of this policy, involving vehicle owners, consumer rights groups, vehicle manufacturers and technical experts.

Questions raised on speed limit and scrappage policy

Association member Jitendra Bobby also expressed strong objection to the speed limit of 80 km per hour for commercial tourist vehicles. He said that on one hand, private vehicles are allowed to run at high speed on modern expressways and highways, while there is a restriction of 80 km/hour on commercial taxis and buses with All India Tourist Permit (AITP). This is affecting our business, time and customer satisfaction.

6 major demands of transporters

First, impartial review of the E20 policy: There should be an independent technical and scientific investigation of the ethanol blending policy.

Second investigation of panic button and VLTD: An audit/investigation should be conducted into the rigging and implementation in the name of mandatory panic button and Vehicle Location Tracking Device (VLTD) in vehicles.

Third, relaxation in speed limit: The speed limit of 80 km/h for tourist commercial vehicles should be reconsidered.

Fourth, consideration of vehicle scrappage policy: The policy of forcibly scrapping old vehicles should be reviewed again.

Fifth, restrictions on BS-IV diesel vehicles should be removed: The restrictions on BS-IV diesel tourist vehicles should be improved.

Sixth, relief in toll tax: The huge toll tax being collected on the National Highway should be reduced.

The demonstration will remain non-political

Sanjay Samrat made it clear that the Parliament march to be held on August 4 will be completely peaceful and non-political. He said that we have no connection with any political party. This is purely a fight for survival of commercial vehicle drivers and owners. We appeal to the Central and State Governments to initiate positive dialogue with all stakeholders and find solutions to our problems. The association has also called on other taxi, cab and truck unions in the country to join the march, with thousands of drivers expected to participate.
