Ottawa, July 26, 2026: A large network smuggling illegal drugs across the border has been exposed in Ontario, Canada; Canada Border Services Agency has seized 1.7 tonnes of illegal drugs. The market value of the seized drugs is estimated to be $139 million.
Some truck drivers of Indian origin were arrested
Under a special operation called ‘Project Bay’, police conducted raids in various areas of Ontario—including Windsor, La-Salle, Corunna, Brampton, Markham and Caledon. Raids were conducted at 22 places and 19 persons including some truck drivers of Indian origin were arrested.
The persons of Indian origin were identified as Gagandeep Thendal, Simranjeet Singh, Kanwarpal Kular, Jatinderpal Singh, Jasvinder Sohi, Tejvinder Sandhu, Harjivinder Sandhu, Tarminder Singh, Gundeep Tariwal, Mahakapreet Singh and Karandeep Singh.
What items were confiscated?
The Canada Border Services Agency reported that officers seized approximately 1.7 tonnes of illegal drugs, worth an estimated $139 million, including suspected cocaine, methamphetamine and morphine. Police had seized 973 kg of cocaine, 660 kg of methamphetamine, 49 kg of opium and 230 oxycodone tablets.
Additionally, the police seized cash, valuable jewellery, a money counter, a vehicle used by the gang, 43 mobile phones and six laptops along with 17 weapons (including an anti-tank rifle). The seizure of drugs is being described as one of the most significant cases in a single investigation in Ontario.
