Meanwhile, Jack Dorsey, co-founder of X, said in a post that the Indian government does not like technology like Bitchat and wants to remove it.

How does Bitchat work without internet and SIM?

Bitchat is a messaging app that can work even without internet, mobile data or SIM card. It connects to other nearby phones with the help of Bluetooth and sends messages. For this, no mobile number or account is required. If several people are using Bitchat nearby, messages can be sent over great distances, reaching from one phone to another.

Why is the government worried about this app?

Messages sent in Bitchat are protected by end-to-end encryption. Also, there is no central server or database in it, due to which it is not easy to track the conversations. This is the reason why security agencies can express concern about such technology. The normal range of Bluetooth is about 10 meters, but Bitchat uses Bluetooth mesh networking. With its help, messages can travel through many devices and reach hundreds of meters.

IFF only criticized the government’s decision

Internet Freedom Foundation (IFF) has criticized the government’s decision to shut down the app. This digital rights organization says that the order to close the app is not according to the correct legal procedure. According to reports, IFF has demanded the government to withdraw this order.
