glasgow, 26th July. Indian weightlifter Rishikant Singh Chanambam won a silver medal in the men’s 60kg weightlifting event at the Commonwealth Games 2026 here on Sunday. Earlier, on Friday, the second day of the Games, powerlifter Jhandu Kumar had opened India’s account by winning a bronze medal in the men’s heavyweight category.

Rishikant created a new sports record by lifting 121 kg in snatch. However, in clean and jerk he could lift only 143 kg. In this way he achieved second place by lifting a total weight of 264 kg.

Bin Kasdan Mohd Anik of Malaysia won the gold medal with a total lift of 273 kg (121 and 152 kg) and also set a new Games record. Kenya’s Joshua Amunga Mboya won the bronze medal with a total lift of 260 kg. He lifted 115 kg in snatch and 145 kg in clean and jerk.

In the snatch, Rishikant started successfully by lifting 116 kg, then 119 kg and finally 121 kg. In clean and jerk, Rishikant successfully lifted 143 kg in the first attempt, but failed to lift 148 kg in the second attempt and 151 kg in the third attempt and missed out on winning the gold medal.
TAGG athlete Protistha Samanta has qualified for the Vault Final at the Commonwealth Games 2026 after finishing 7th in the qualification round with a score of 13.025.

Meanwhile, TAGG athlete Pratistha Samant has qualified for the vault finals by finishing 7th in the qualification round with a score of 13.025. The final of this event will start on Monday at 6.15 pm Indian time.

In swimming, the Indian men’s 4x200m freestyle relay team has reached the finals. The team of Aryan Nehra (TAGG athlete), Srihari Nataraj (TAGG athlete), Anish Sunil Kumar Gowda and Dhakshan Sasikumar secured their place in the proposed final tonight by finishing sixth in the heats with a timing of 07:39.48 minutes.
