Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Mojtaba Khamenei has said that it is Tehran’s “strategic responsibility” to protect Lebanon’s Hezbollah fighters. He said that the first condition of any agreement with America to end the war should be that Israel should stop its military attacks on Lebanon completely and without any conditions.
This statement of Khamenei has come at a time when there is tension in West Asia. Responding to a letter of support from Hezbollah chief Sheikh Naim Qassim, he praised the organization and said that Iran considers the territorial integrity of Lebanon and the security of Hezbollah as its strategic responsibility. On the other hand, Lebanese President Joseph Aoun told US President Donald Trump that Israel’s complete withdrawal is necessary for stability.
What did Ayatollah Khamenei say?
1. Khamenei posted on social media platform X that it is Iran’s strategic responsibility to protect Hezbollah fighters.
2. He said that any agreement to end the war with America should include an unconditional end to all Israeli attacks on Lebanon.
3. Khamenei said the only way forward now was through “jihad and resistance” and claimed that this path would ultimately lead to victory.
4. He praised the loyalty, patience and sacrifice of Hezbollah chief Sheikh Naim Qasim and the organization’s fighters. Khamenei described Hezbollah as an “unshakable rock” standing in the front line of resistance against Israel.
5. He said that Iran also considers protecting the territorial integrity of Lebanon as its strategic responsibility. Khamenei also praised the patience and support of the people of southern Lebanon.
6. He paid tribute to the slain Hezbollah leader Sayyid Hassan Nasrallah and other commanders of the organization. Khamenei said that Hezbollah fighters have transformed the organization from a small plant into a strong and influential organization.
7. Lebanese President Joseph Aoun told US President Donald Trump that Israel’s complete withdrawal from Lebanese territory is necessary for stability.
8. In the first meeting of the two leaders, the issue of disarming Iran-backed Hezbollah and Israel’s withdrawal was discussed.
9. Topics like US support to the Lebanese army, reconstruction, economic reforms and US investment in Lebanon were also discussed in the meeting.
10. Khamenei’s latest statement indicates that Iran is linking any comprehensive agreement to the end of Israeli military action on Lebanon and maintaining the territorial integrity of Lebanon.
