Flight IGO-1452, coming from Dubai to Mumbai, had to be diverted towards Rajkot as smoke was seen in the luggage compartment of the aircraft, the airport management said in a statement. There were 194 people on board this plane. After receiving the message, an emergency was declared at the airport at 2:45 pm and the plane landed safely at 3:27 pm.
Police said all passengers were evacuated safely without any injuries, while technicians have begun examining the plane to determine the cause of the smoke. Airport police station inspector KP Taretia said the pilot informed air traffic control (ATC) about suspicious smoke and sought permission to make an emergency landing at Rajkot in Gujarat.
