BJP MP Tejasvi Surya on Tuesday launched an attack on the Opposition during the Lok Sabha debate on the Public Examinations (Prevention of Unfair Means) Amendment Bill, 2026, saying it was a “delulu” belief to assume that young voters were supporting Opposition parties over the issue of exam paper leaks.
Using a popular Gen Z expression, Surya said the Opposition was mistaken if it believed the youth had aligned with it over concerns related to examination irregularities.
Participating in the debate, the BJP MP said students needed concrete solutions rather than political slogans, arguing that the proposed legislation would provide a legal framework to address unfair practices in examinations.
Responding to Congress MP Priyanka Gandhi Vadra’s criticism over the lack of convictions in paper leak cases, Surya said previous governments had failed to create a specific law to deal with such offences, which contributed to delays in prosecution.
“The student needs solution, not slogans and this Bill provides the solution,” Surya said, adding that the legislation was the first such law of its kind at the national level.
Surya also criticized the previous education policies, accusing earlier governments of allowing a system based heavily on rote learning. He said the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 was aimed at bringing structural changes to the education system.
Taking a further swipe at Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, Surya questioned his absence from student protests and alleged that his participation was aimed at gaining political attention.
The BJP MP also targeted the previous Congress government in Rajasthan over allegations related to the REET examination paper leak and criticized the Samajwadi Party over its opposition to an anti-copying law introduced during the BJP government in Uttar Pradesh between 2000 and 2002.
Earlier in the day, BJP MP Bansuri Swaraj also referred to the amendment legislation while asserting that the Modi government had addressed concerns related to examination integrity through a legal measure.
