Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge and Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi held a press conference at the Congress headquarters in New Delhi. Speaking at the event, Rahul Gandhi said, “My message to the students of Jharkhand is clear. We condemn any violence against students who are protesting peacefully, wherever it may be. We condemn it; we are against it; we do not support it. Our stand on this matter is absolutely clear; we have no doubt that attacking peaceful protests with violence is wrong. The Jharkhand government should continue to listen to the protesting students and resolve their problems immediately.”
Rahul Gandhi further said, “The question was not whether Amit Shah will come to Parliament and give a speech on a general issue or not. The question has always been that Amit Shah should clarify who gave the order to fire on our youth in Delhi. Pellet guns were fired, students were beaten with sticks with nails. He should explain clearly. Did he give this order or not? If he did, then he is guilty of giving the order to fire on our children. And if he was not aware of this incident, then he is incompetent. In both the cases, he should resign. That was the subject of discussion.”
He said, “Secondly, the Prime Minister should apologise for what happened. And thirdly, there was the issue of theft in the Ram temple. People very close to the Prime Minister had stolen from the Ram temple. These are the three issues. So now Amit Shah is suddenly saying that he is ready to speak. We are not interested in his fabricated statements. We are interested in whether he ordered the firing on our children or not. First of all, he should completely clarify this matter. Only then can any question of discussion arise. This is the situation. And this is what the opposition is demanding. We have been demanding this for the last 15 days.”
