New Delhi: The border dispute that has been going on for decades on the inter-state border of Assam and Arunachal Pradesh has once again taken a violent turn. A sudden firing following a dispute over alleged land encroachment in Mingmang colony of Dhemaji district on Monday morning created a sensation in the entire area. Eight villagers from Assam were seriously injured in indiscriminate firing by miscreants coming from Arunachal Pradesh. After this unfortunate incident, there has been huge tension in the border areas between the two neighboring states. Due to which the security forces have been kept on alert. After the incident, vigil has been increased in the entire border area.
Officers trying to calm the situation
Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma immediately took cognizance and directed the administration to take necessary steps. The Chief Minister clarified that the Chief Secretaries of both the states are in constant touch and the Director General of Police are also coordinating to bring the situation back to normal.
After the incident, vigil has been increased in the entire border area. The Chief Minister has instructed the police that not even an inch of land in Assam should be lost under any circumstances.
The heat of decades old border dispute
There has been a long standing disagreement regarding the demarcation of the border line between Assam and Arunachal Pradesh. Although both the states are trying to resolve the dispute through dialogue at the administrative and political level, situations of conflict often arise at the ground level in many sensitive areas like Mingmang. After the incident, vigil has been increased in the entire border area. All the injured were immediately taken to Gogamukh Rural Hospital, who were referred to Dhemaji Civil Hospital.
Encroachment dispute took violent form
According to a senior police officer, the entire incident took place on Monday morning at Mingmang Inter-State Border located in Dhemaji district of Assam. Preliminary investigation has revealed that there was tension between the two sides for some time for the alleged illegal occupation of Assam land by some people of Arunachal Pradesh. In the morning, when the villagers protested against this, the situation worsened and the miscreants who came from across the border started firing bullets directly targeting the people of Assam. Durgeshwar Patir, Rohit Dole, Nagraj Dole, Bigeshwar Patir, Pame Pegu, Sanjay Tayung, Utpal Dole and Jan Dole were injured in this sudden attack. All the injured were immediately taken to Gogamukh Rural Hospital, from where considering the critical condition of seven people, they were referred to Dhemaji Civil Hospital.
