Attention Creators! YouTube Increased Monetization Criteria, Check New Milestone For Videos And Shorts

New Delhi: US-based on-demand video streaming giant YouTube is gearing up to make monetization harder for new creators. The platform has announced changes to the YouTube Partner Program (YPP), which allows creators to make money by uploading videos. The company has increased the eligibility criteria; the platform has doubled the watch hours for video than before, as well as more YouTube Shorts views.
The platform sees about 200 billion daily Shorts views and over a billion hours of watch-time on TV every day. This change is the first major change to the partner program since 2018. There are more than 3 million monetized creators on the platform.
In a recent blog post, the company shared the new criteria for creators, from February 1, 2027, new creators will need either 8,000 qualified watch hours in the previous 365 days or 20 million qualified Shorts views in the past 90 days to qualify for ad and YouTube Premium revenue sharing.
Before, the new update eligibility criteria were 4000 watch hours or 10 million Shorts views. However, the 1000 subscriber requirement remained unchanged, and creators who are already associated with the YPP are not affected.

YouTube Shorts Monetization New Criteria

The company has also rolled out a new guideline that will also impact existing creators with YPP. YouTube has also introduced a new rule for Shorts earnings. From 1 February, creators will need 10 million qualified Shorts views over a rolling 90-day period to remain eligible for ad and subscription revenue sharing on Shorts.
Creators that fall below the mark will stay in the partner program and can continue earning from long-form videos. However, their earnings from YouTube Shorts will only resume once they hit 10 million views again.
