A major accident occurred due to cloud burst amid heavy rains near the India-China border in Chamoli district of Uttarakhand on Monday. Suddenly the flow of water in the Tamak drain near Lata village became so strong that the bridge built by the Border Roads Organization (BRO) about a month ago was washed away. This bridge was on Niti Motorway and due to its collapse, vehicular movement in Niti Valley has come to a standstill.

During the accident, a BRO jeep parked near the bridge was also washed away in the strong current of water. Information about one person missing has also come to light. At the same time, more than 12 villages bordering Joshimath have been cut off from the district headquarters.
A video of the incident has also surfaced, in which a heavy iron bridge is seen collapsing in no time amidst the strong current. Seeing the flood of water, there was panic among the people present nearby. People warned other people present at the spot to stay away from rivers and streams. As soon as information about the incident was received, the district administration sent SDRF and NDRF teams to the spot. Due to the rise in the water level of rivers and streams, people living in low-lying areas have been advised to be cautious and not go near water.

Heavy rain forecast again at night
The situation has worsened due to continuous rain and excessive rainfall in many parts of Uttarakhand. According to Disaster Management and Rehabilitation Secretary Vinod Kumar Suman, many districts including Dehradun, Bageshwar, Nainital and Champawat are affected. He said that the rainy season will continue. There may be some relief after evening, but there is a possibility of heavy rain again at night.
