MLA Oken Tayeng inaugurated Ngopok Korong bridge, Livelihood Service Center and restored community building in Mebo, Arunachal Pradesh. The new projects are expected to strengthen rural connectivity, agricultural transportation, livelihood opportunities and local cultural heritage.
Itanagar: Three important projects were launched towards promoting rural infrastructure and community development in Mebo region of Arunachal Pradesh. Mebo MLA Oken Tayeng on Thursday inaugurated the Ngopok Korong Bridge, the Livelihood Service Center established under the Bosi Didum Integrated Farming Cluster and the newly constructed community building at Ngopok.
These three projects are being linked to the needs of the local people and long-term development of the area. Especially the opening of Ngopok Korong bridge is expected to provide relief to the villagers who have been facing connectivity problems for years. This area is considered to be the main agricultural area of Mebo and a large number of villagers here are dependent on farming and related activities.
Ngopok Korong bridge found after a long wait
The Ngopok Korong bridge was one of the long-standing demands of the local people. Before the construction of the bridge, villagers had to rely on several difficult alternatives to cross the river. Elephants and motorcycles were sometimes used, while a narrow suspension bridge was also a major means of movement of people.
Transporting agricultural products from fields to villages and further to markets has also been challenging for the villagers. The construction of the new Bailey bridge is expected to solve this problem to a great extent. After the commissioning of the bridge, farmers will get convenience in reaching their fields and taking out the crops safely.
This bridge can play an important role in improving transportation at the local level as well as connecting the area to Dibang Valley district and further areas via Bijari.
Farmers and rural economy will benefit
The Ngopok area is considered the main agricultural area of Mebo. For the farming villagers here, better road and bridge connectivity is directly linked to their livelihood. Better transportation system can help in taking agricultural products to the market in less time.

Legislator Okene Tayeng said during the inauguration of the bridge that the project was among the major promises made during his election campaign. He expressed satisfaction on completing it and dedicating it to the local people.
According to him, rural development should not be limited to just building new structures, but it is also necessary to develop facilities that strengthen the economic potential of the local people.
Livelihood Service Center will increase opportunities
The second major project inaugurated in Ngopok is the Livelihood Service Center established under the Bosi Didum Integrated Farming Cluster. Its objective is to provide a platform to the local people where efforts related to integrated farming, cooperative activities and sustainable livelihoods can be promoted.
Collective efforts are considered important to strengthen agriculture-based income in rural areas. Through service centres, farmers and communities can get the opportunity to better organize their activities and utilize shared resources.

The restored community building is also dedicated to the public.
