Shree Thaker Bhojanalay is a long-running, laid-back Indian restaurant in Mumbai that has been serving traditional Gujarati thalis since 1945. This iconic eatery is also popular among celebrities such as Bhumi Pednekar, who appreciate its authentic and diverse thali offerings. The restaurant has currently shut temporarily, a move that sparked several rumors about possible hygiene or food safety violations.
Putting an end to these rumours, Shree Thaker Bhojanalay issued a statement on its official Instagram handle. Acknowledging the circulating claims, it wrote, “We've seen some reports and comments suggesting that Shree Thaker Bhojanalay has been shut down due to hygiene or food-safety violations. This is not true.”
The restaurant clarified that the closure is purely for renovation and maintenance work. “Our temporary closure is entirely for planned kitchen upgrades, repairs and some paint touch-ups. As the kitchen is being upgraded, we cannot continue regular operations during this work.”
Reiterating its legacy, the restaurant said, “We have always taken pride in our food, cleanliness, tradition and the trust our customers have placed in us since 1945.”
The statement concluded with a promise to reopen soon. “Thank you to everyone who has supported us and continues to believe in us. We'll be back soon with the same flavours, same tradition and the same Thaker you love. We simply wanted to take a short pause to refresh and improve our space, not because we were forced to close.”
The rumors of possible food safety violations emerged amid the suspension of licenses of several iconic Mumbai eateries following food safety raids, including K Rustom Ice Cream, Shalimar, Noor Mohammadi Hotel and Rehmania Restaurant.
