Automobile desk: Hero MotoCorp is planning to bring a major update to further strengthen its hold in the 125cc sports bike segment of the Indian two-wheeler market. The company is preparing to launch its popular bike Extreme 125R (Hero Xtreme 125R) in the market with new and modern features. Even before the official launch, some pictures related to this upcoming bike have surfaced on the internet, which have indicated its new avatar and the new features included in it.
Will be equipped with new technology and connectivity
According to leaked reports, the biggest changes of the new Hero Extreme 125R include its new TFT instrument cluster. Till now this bike has a 4.2 inch LCD color screen, but in the TFT screen to be introduced in the upcoming model, riders will get sharper visuals, better graphics and can easily see useful information during the journey.
Apart from TFT display, Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) is also being added to it. With the help of this feature, riders will be able to check the air pressure inside the tires in real time, which will increase the level of safety during long journeys. Industry experts believe that these premium features will probably be introduced only in the top variants of the bike.
Powerful engine and existing features will remain intact
Despite the technical upgrades in features, the company seems to be in no mood to make any major changes in its mechanical setup. There is every possibility that the updated Extreme 125R will get the same 125cc single-cylinder engine as before. This engine is capable of generating maximum power of 11.4 bhp and peak torque of 10.5 Nm, which is mated to a 5-speed gearbox.
If we talk about the basic structure of the bike, it will continue to get telescopic front forks, rear monoshock suspension and 120-section rear tire for grip. Along with this, the bike will also have modern features like all-LED lighting setup, split-seat design, ride-by-wire technology, riding modes, cruise control, dual-channel ABS and dual disc brakes.
The new upgrade will affect the price
This new package of features can affect the ex-showroom price of the bike. At present, the starting ex-showroom price of Hero Extreme 125R ranges from Rs 91,500 to around Rs 1.08 lakh. After the inclusion of high-tech features like TFT display and TPMS, a slight increase in the price of its top-end variants may be seen.
Tough competition with these bikes
With this upgrade, Hero Extreme 125R will compete directly with popular bikes like TVS Raider 125, Bajaj Pulsar 125 and Honda CB125 Hornet in the Indian market. If the company introduces these new features at a competitive price, then it will become a strong contender to offer the most features in the 125cc sporty bike segment.
