Twisha Sharma Death Case: Twisha faced ‘sustained psychological harm’ from husband and MIL, says CBI chargesheet

New Delhi: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has filed a chargesheet in the death case of former actor-model Twisha Sharma, alleging that she faced “sustained psychological harm” from her husband Samarth Singh and mother-in-law Giribala Singh before her death.

Twisha, 33, was found dead at her marital home in Bhopal on May 12, just five months after her marriage. The CBI has accused her husband and mother-in-law of cruelty, harassment and abetment to suicide. The agency has kept the investigation open into allegations related to dowry demands and dowry death.

May 12: Twisha Found Dead In Bhopal Home

According to the investigation, Twisha was found hanging at her marital residence. Her husband Samarth Singh took her to AIIMS Bhopal, where doctors declared her brought dead.

The initial claim was that she had died by suicide at home, but her family raised concerns and alleged possible wrongdoing.

Investigation Transferred To CBI

After questions were raised over the circumstances of her death, the case was taken over by the CBI. Samarth Singh and Giribala Singh were later arrested during the investigation.

Second Autopsy Conducted

Following a Madhya Pradesh High Court order, a second post-mortem examination was conducted by a four-member team from AIIMS Delhi.

The report confirmed that the cause of death was asphyxia due to ante-mortem hanging using a gym belt, according to the CBI chargesheet.

What Did The CBI Chargesheet Say?

In its nearly 600-page chargesheet filed before a special court in Bhopal, the CBI accused Samarth Singh and Giribala Singh under provisions related to cruelty, abatement to suicide and common intention under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.

The agency said forensic analysis of Twisha's diaries, chats and CCTV footage indicated that she experienced emotional distress, hopelessness and lack of support.

The chargesheet also mentioned allegations of character-related accusations, questioning of pregnancy-related issues and pressure regarding financial transactions.

Messages Before Death

The CBI chargesheet referred to messages allegedly sent by Twisha shortly before her death. According to the agency, she had informed family members about aggressive behavior and emotional distress.

One message cited in the chargesheet allegedly showed her expressing extreme emotional pain and a feeling of being unable to cope.

Evidence And Further Probe

The CBI has sent Twisha's iPhone and DVR data to forensic laboratories for further examination. The agency said the analysis could reveal additional evidence related to the case.
