High Court imposes stay on government's order to cancel JPSC examinations in Jharkhand Country-Foreign

Ranchi, 20 August 2026: In a major blow to the state government, the Jharkhand High Court has stayed the decision to cancel the recruitment examinations conducted earlier by the Jharkhand Public Service Commission (JPSC). Due to this decision of the government, the jobs of hundreds of currently working candidates were in danger, in which the High Court has given relief. The court has also ordered the state government to file a counter affidavit in this matter within the next 15 days.

Earlier, there was a long student agitation at Ranchi's Jaipal Singh Munda Stadium alleging irregularities in the JPSC and JSSC examinations. Under the pressure of this movement, the state government had announced the cancellation of the controversial examinations and a CID investigation into some cases. Also, a special committee was formed to improve the examinations. This step of the government had put the jobs of more than 2,300 candidates at risk.

The affected candidates had filed separate applications in the Jharkhand High Court against this unilateral decision of the government. The hearing of this case was conducted in the court of Justice Deepak Roshan, in which after presenting the case from the applicants, the High Court has stayed the order of cancellation of recruitment examinations. With this legal relief, officers and candidates who were worried about losing their jobs have heaved a sigh of relief.

Students in Ranchi had protested against the irregularities in JPSC and JSSC examinations. Due to which the government had ordered cancellation of 22 examinations and CID investigation of 23 students. Apart from this, assurance was given to form an examination reform committee under the chairmanship of IAS officer Amitabh Kaushal. Due to which the 26 day long movement ended. However, due to the government's decision to cancel the examination, the jobs of more than 2300 candidates have been affected. The committee headed by IAS Amitabh Kaushal has to submit its report in 2 months.
