New Delhi. Defense Minister Rajnath Singh has approved the transfer of technologies of all conventional missile systems developed by DRDO to the Indian Defense Industry for indigenous production. In order to enhance the indigenous defense industry, this decision will encourage Indian companies to manufacture advanced missile systems that comply with regulatory norms. By strengthening domestic capabilities, the government is not only promoting self-reliance but is also improving the country’s defense sector.
According to the Defense Ministry, this decision will make it possible to successfully convert the development of missile systems into industrial production. This will enable the Indian industry to leverage its capabilities for the development and manufacturing of advanced defense systems. It aims to enhance domestic manufacturing capabilities, strengthen the industrial base of the defense sector and create opportunities for participation of India’s micro, small and medium enterprises and other technology partners in the supply chain.
The objective of this initiative is to increase operational efficiency, reduce dependence on imports and promote domestic reforms to enhance quality and utility. Along with this, the aim is to cooperate in the development of India’s defense manufacturing sector. DRDO is committed to work closely with Indian industry to facilitate the transfer of advanced defense technologies, their adaptation and integration into the defense system and to strengthen the country’s indigenous defense capabilities.
This transfer of technology is an important milestone towards promoting greater participation of domestic industries in the enabling environment of the defense sector by enabling them to indigenously produce as per prescribed qualifications, certification and regulatory requirements. The move is aimed at enhancing the role of Indian industry in the defense manufacturing ecosystem and rapidly transitioning to industrial-scale missile production within the country. Under this initiative, domestic companies will be able to make missile systems on DRDO standards.
The Defense Ministry said the technology transfer will help in creating more manufacturing capacity in the country and strengthening the domestic defense industrial base. It is also expected to create more opportunities for Indian micro, small and medium enterprises and other technology partners to participate in the missile system supply chain. The initiative is part of the government’s larger effort for self-reliance or self-reliance in defence. By starting domestic production of DRDO-made missile systems, the move aims to reduce import dependence, increase the share of domestic value addition and strengthen India’s indigenous defense manufacturing capabilities.
